JOHNNY CASH PERFORMANCE AT KARL'S AUGUST 26, 1956

After playing a show at The Casino Theater in Toronto,  Johnny Cash traveled through Detroit to play a private event at the cabin then called Rusceak's Rustic Tavern.  On the same stage that still exists today, at the north end of our restaurant, Johnny and his backing band The Tennessee Two rocked a matinee show on a Sunday afternoon.   The set list included classic songs like "Cry, Cry Cry," "Hey Porter!,"  "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk the Line."   Legend has it, Johnny had just fallen in love with June Carter  two months prior at The Grand Ole Opry and he was in the lobby pay phone booth talking to her for over an hour prior to the show.   Soon after playing Karl's, Johnny's notoriety quickly grew including playing together with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins at the Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee on December 4, 1956 as The Million Dollar Quartet then performing on The Jackie Gleason Show in January of 1957.  Oh if only our walls could talk!
